Director, Business Development
Obra Capital is seeking a Director of Business Development to strengthen and grow its institutional investor presence.
Based full-time in New York and reporting to Obra’s Head of Business Development and Investor Relations, this position is focused primarily on institutional capital formation. The Director will be responsible for originating new investor relationships while also supporting and expanding existing limited partner relationships over time. The role requires a proven capital raiser with a preference for West Coast institutional network, deep familiarity with complex credit-oriented strategies, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Responsibilities:
Help facilitate institutional fundraising efforts for Obra Capital’s investment strategies, including structured credit, private credit, and other niche or esoteric asset classes.
Originate, develop, and convert relationships with pensions, endowments, foundations, family offices, RIAs, and investment consultants.
Support the full capital-raising lifecycle across evergreen and closed-end fund structures, from initial engagement through diligence, closing, and follow-on allocations.
Develop and execute a regional coverage plan aligned with firm-wide fundraising objectives.
Serve as a senior representative of Obra Capital with institutional allocators, consultants, and industry participants.
Articulate Obra Capital’s investment philosophy, portfolio construction, risk management, and performance across complex and non-traditional strategies.
Participate in investor meetings, due diligence sessions, conferences, and roadshows, coordinating closely with portfolio managers and senior leadership.
Partner with Investor Relations, Marketing, and Product teams to refine messaging, positioning, and materials for West Coast investors.
Provide market intelligence and allocator feedback to inform product development and fundraising strategy.
Support expansion into new investor segments and geographies as the platform continues to grow.
Maintain and deepen relationships with existing investors to support retention, re-ups, and cross-strategy opportunities.
Maintain a disciplined, process-driven approach to pipeline management, CRM usage, and reporting.
Operate as a collaborative, solutions-oriented senior team member and culture carrier as Obra continues to scale.
Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in alternative asset management, with a minimum of 7–10 years in an institutional business development, fundraising, or investor relations role.
Demonstrated track record of raising institutional capital from North American investors; West Coast coverage experience required.
Strong familiarity with structured credit, private credit, and other complex or esoteric investment strategies.
Existing network of institutional LPs, including but not limited to – pensions, endowments, high-net worth individuals, family offices and investment consultants allocating to alternative and private capital strategies.
Proven ability to clearly articulate complex investment strategies and position products within allocator portfolios.
Highly organized, disciplined, and process-oriented approach to client coverage and pipeline management.
Self-directed, entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate independently while collaborating effectively with senior leadership and investment teams.
Experience raising capital across both evergreen and closed-end fund structures.
Background covering consultants and large institutional allocators.
Comfort representing a growing, evolving platform with multiple strategies.
Willingness to travel extensively throughout the West Coast and nationally as required.
Bachelor’s Degree required, CFA is preferred
The expected base salary range for this role is outlined below. In addition to the base salary, total compensation may include a discretionary bonus based on performance. This range given is a best faith estimate which reflects a variety of factors, including years of relevant experience, education, location and other qualifications pertinent to the position. Base salary does not include any other performance based compensation such as year end cash bonus.
$200,000-$250,000
